From Shadows to Light: My Spiritual Awakening Journey

When I was about 16 I was going through a tough time. I didn’t know who I was and couldn’t seem to make it in the “real world”. I had been expelled from the public school district and was hard into substance abuse trying to cope with what I was experiencing.
I was feeling the early childhood traumas that had been present in my life as well as feeling the more severe trauma that my mom had experienced.

Oftentimes, in a family there is one person who is more sensitive (spiritually speaking) than everyone else, sometimes that person is called the “weak link”, but really, it is the trance medium in the family, the person who is susceptible to energy.
That energy can be a generational trauma, it can be genetic or epi-genetic (meaning we are influenced by the world and people around us)

Well, I was that weak link in my family. I was carrying an unseen weight that no one had the ability to talk to me about or even validate as real.

I was seeing spirits or ghosts and being laughed at and told I was making it up.
I was hearing voices that weren’t mine talking to me.
I could feel the energy of everyone in school around me, I was split, never fully in my body but flying around.

In short, I was highly sensitive, I was awakening and didn’t know it.
That is why I had chosen to do drugs at school to cope with that intense feeling I got when around other people.
(by the way, even Deepak Chopra used LSD at this age so don’t judge me too hard hehe)

Today, there are words that come closer to describing this, they might call it being empathic (although I wouldn’t call it that) or they might call it being neurodivergent or an indigo child or many other names.

I had turned myself into a rehab and boy's home. I had asked for help.
I needed it. I knew my life wouldn’t last long going the way I was going.
When I was living in that boy's home, the owner had asked a psychic to do a reading for all of the kids to see what they needed for their treatment, and what the best way to help them would be.

(I know how cool that they would even think to do that?!)

Well, the psychic saw me and gave a small reading and then said “This kid needs this work, he needs spirituality”.

Turns out she was right. I started my psychic training and it was the answer to all of my struggles, it was the light that lit my way forward.

It was the answer to a prayer that came deep from within.

I only got that help and to that step because I was willing to ask for help when I needed it but also because she was willing to say hey, this kid needs this. I didn’t book the reading, I didn’t know that this disconnect from my spiritual heritage and gifts was causing me immense suffering.
I didn’t know that these spiritual tools would soon help me to be able to not only function in the world but actually enjoy my life and help countless others.

She had seen the need and asked the owner to let me go.
He shared this opportunity with me. One that he only knew about because someone had at some point suggested seeing her to him.

Although he was a spiritual guy he didn’t really believe in psychics and didn’t really think they were a legit thing.
He loved his reading, and so continued to keep getting them for himself, his business, and then the kids.

It is so often through word of mouth that we get connected to our next step.
To something that can deeply help or heal us.

You can probably think of a time or two in your own life when you have had someone recommend or invite you to something that changed your life, or your viewpoint.
Maybe it wasn’t as dramatic as this story but it had a big effect.
Even if it was just a great place to eat that you frequent now.
